It bagan like “we have to watch Fashion, the promos had clearly done their job well.So this was like my 1st outing of sorts in Vizag and that too with Mumbai people (all of us cool chics thinking of Vizag as “not such a nice town”!)
Fisrt there were no bijlis(autorickshaws.Ya,tht’s what they are called apprently!!) empty….and we being ‘us’ didn’t want to go in a shared rickshaw! And this was at 1:55pm…we had to catch a 2:30 show..and we still had to buy tickets.
Anyway..when we finally did find an empty auto..looking at all of us..tht guy quoted ‘100 rs’ and with our pretty much non-existent telgu gyan we managed to settle the bargain for 60rs… we were so proud of ourselves! J And after this major feat(our happiess was short lived)….the auto could not have gone any slower..and he obviously had to stop to fill diesel and also talk to some random guy on d road about god knows what .All along we were yelling at each other(and at the driver, thou I don’t think he understood!) and figuring out who to blame of we returned widout watching the movie. So somehow, thru all the commotion we manged to reach “Ramadevi” (yep, tht’s d name of the theatre..tht and ‘Jagdama’..only 2 places tht play hindi/English movies here!))
And we see a “houseful” board..and we cldnt believe it..it wasnt possible..vizag-hindi movie-Monday afternoon-not happening man.Well,it didn’t.turns out we were at the wrong counter! So FINALLY we managed to buy d tickets (for 40rs each!!) and enter the movie hall……. (the hall was another joke..but thts a story for another time!)
So here’s my take on the movie:
Like Rajeev Masand on Cnnibn rightly said-the movie should have been named “Models” and not “Fashion”. The movie depicts the life and emotions and turmoil of newcomers in the Fashion industry. It is a good effort at trying to prove the point tht it is easier maybe to reach a zenith(comparatively),but way more difficult to actually continue staying there. Not everyone can handle that kind of success and at that level it is very, very easy to get carried away. But the picture tht he put forth of the glamour world “filled with gays ”(like literally….the first 15 mins every male on screen is gay!!) is pretty misleading. But then, the movie handled the ‘wardrobe malfunction’ incident very maturely in the sense that I dont think any of us would have a given a thought to what goes thru the model when such thing happens..to kno that u r on international television....in front of soo many people-it is an excruciatingly traumatizing experince. But tht doesn’t mean that u go and drown urself in an overdose of drugs and lose all thought of where and what u r…but then maybe being in that situation…as the movie tries to show “tum aape aap ko bhi nahi pehchan paoge” !!!
And then there was one of my friends who was very “inspired” by d movie…. It just shpws the same 3 hrs can have sooo many different outcomes for so many different people!
The journey back home was less eventful..but getting an auto was way more difficult..coz we stood out in d crowd..5 of us on a crowded road with state transport buses nearly running us over and the “aam aadmi” having a ball passing comments..and the rickshawwalas fighting as to who would get to drive us bak..but this time we had to settle for 70rs…. Such was my day…and rite in d middle of my preparation leave….my exams begin form 20th Nov and I haven’t even opened my books.Hoping for the best....adios!!
